Bryony Nicholson

COMMUNITY LEAD

South Wales, UK

As a Community Lead at Brink, Bryony works across funds and programmes to lead teams, build communities and support people to make more impact through collaboration; at the heart of all change is a group of people working together. Bryony believes in the transformative potential of the collective to redistribute power; something she believes to be essential if international development is going to sustainably impact the lives of the poorest and most marginalised.

Before Brink, Bryony built a community of social workers across the UK. Using a community organising model she enabled social workers to develop and share training on working with unaccompanied migrant children and supporting young people affected by county lines.

Bryony is involved in local politics, is a Town Councillor and chairs her local political group. She is also reading a book for every country in the world - send recommendations!

Questions Bryony is exploring in their work right now

  • As AI and other technologies develop, what role might our place-based and embodied communities play in working towards hopeful futures?
  • How can we encourage the real-world behaviours that resilient communities need - where people can have sweaty conversations, make requests of each other, and admit they made a mistake - when the online world feeds polarisation?
